Kylene & John, Jupiter Beach
Kylene and John had dreamed of being married on the beach. So, they planned for a ceremony on Jupiter beach with the reception to be held on the same property in the Jupiter Civic Center. That's when they called me. The civic center is a small, very casual, bare-bones,open-air beach shack. They wanted it transformed into something a little more special for their wedding reception and didn't know where to begin. I set to work, designing a fun and colorful atmosphere, incorporating hot pink, which Kylene loves, with accents of black and white –not the typical beach decor, but it was what the bride wanted and I was feeling creative!
When the day arrived, the weather was horrible. The power was out and we had to decorate the room in the dark. Wind and rain made it impossible to do the ceremony on the beach or the cocktail hour on the outdoor deck. The power went on 45 minutes before the guests arrived and my assistants and I were able to make a few adjustments so that the ceremony and reception could take place inside the building. (Thank goodness they'd hired us for wedding day coordination!) The guests had a ball, not seeming to mind being stuck indoors, and commenting on how they couldn't believe what the place looked like inside.
I always enjoy seeing the transformation of a challenging space, so I'm starting off with these "before" shots which were taken just before the lights went out:
Here are the end results:
The shot below is of me and my teenage daughter who helped with the set up that day. I'm including this one because I think it's a great angle of the room…and because we had so much fun!
